MTA Teaching Level (Certificate Program) |

This
5 graduate hour program is scheduled over three consecutive
semesters:
- First
semester: 8 days (Mondays through Thursdays)
45 contact hours, 3 graduate credits.
- Second
semester: MTA Kits 2 and 3, 2 days, 1 graduate
credit
- Third
semester: MTA Kits 4 and 5, 2 days, 1 graduate
credit

Fluency and Rate: 2 days, 1 graduate credit
Examines the current research regarding the role of
automatic word reading and fluent text reading as related
to comprehension. Includes strategies and activities
designed to help students develop automaticity and fluency.
Dyslexia Identification, 2 days, 1 graduate
credit
Specific, research-based processes for screening and
identifying dyslexic students are explained. Emphasis
is placed on early identification as early as spring
of the Kindergarten year.
The workshop prepares participants for implementing
the MTS Reading and Spelling Program. Based on Multisensory
Teaching Approach (MTA) for Reading and Spelling, MTS
for Reading and Spelling encompasses the structure of
the English language, including sound-symbol relationships,
affixes, syllable types, and syllable division.
MTS
is a research-based, ungraded program suitable for:
- Prevention of reading failure
for K-3 students
- Supplemental instruction
with basal or literature-based reading programs
in regular elementary classrooms
- One-to-one and small group
tutorials for all ages
- Special education, all levels
- Title I reading classes
- Adult literacy programs
